I’m Maurizio Picchiò
DRUMS (Ludwig and Paiste endorser) and PERCUSSIONS player from Umbria, Italy, freelance musician and teacher. He started to play drums when he was about 7. At the age of thirteen years he began playing professionally with various bands of Rhythm and blues, studying percussions for a short period in the F. Morlacchi’s conservatory of Perugia with Vincenzo Restuccia and Drums in some courses in Diano Marina, Siena, Perugia and Ravenna whit Ed Uribe, Jimmy Cobb, Jack De Johnette.
In 1986 he founded the Maurizio Picchiò Quartet with Klaus Lessmann (sax), Riccardo Galardini (guitar) and Franco Fabbrini (electric bass) later to become quintet with the addition in 1989 of the pianist Ramberto Ciammarughi. The group took part to Umbria Jazz 88 and 89 and Siena Jazz, toured in Italy, Germany and Switzerland and recorded the "Biri San" CD for Splas(h) Record.
He is involved in a lot of jazz and theatre projects and currently plays with Perugia Big Band and Marit Sandvik & Maurizio Picchiò Group, promoting the "Travel" album.
